Better… stronger… faster…
At Cinema Sessions it’s all about feelings! Should you, for example, find yourself in need of feeling encouraged (be it through identification with the main character, the antagonist or just because of the story itself) just select this feeling and hit search! You could also filter for negative emotions as some movies might help you overcome them, or simply because you want to feel sad for a bit, which is perfectly normal.
We feel mental health should be a societal responsibility instead of a medical field and only endorse a single drug called Cinemazepam, which helps you in all sorts of wonderful ways. Have you ever heard of certain movies having a bad influence on society? We feel utilizing this principle for the exact opposite outcome could prove helpful to many, as the vast amount of movies available to everyone today holds the potential to be used for more than just entertainment! All throughout human history, the themes, feelings and values in stories (both fact and fiction) have helped shape society as people find they have evolved emotionally through a process called catharsis. Just browse through all movies or use the tag clouds at the bottom of the page which illustrate frequently used feelings. For more specific needs, use the search function above to filter movies by positive and negative feelings. We aim to provide an easily applicable form of self-help which has been somewhat abandoned since the medicalization of mental healthcare:
Cinema therapy is a form of therapy or self-help that uses movies, particularly videos, as therapeutic tools. Cinema therapy can be a catalyst for healing and growth for those who are open to learning how movies affect people and to watching certain films with conscious awareness. Cinema therapy allows one to use the effect of imagery, plot, music, etc. in films on the psyche for insight, inspiration, emotional release or relief and natural change. Used as part of psychotherapy, cinema therapy is an innovative method based on traditional therapeutic principles.
Please leave a comment for a movie! Tell us about your experiences and which feelings you think should be added to said movie. If you want to recommend a new movie altogether, please use the contact form. Especially in these difficult times of social distancing, self-reliance is more important than ever which is why we want to reach out as much as we can. Use this website to your benefit and stay safe!
